Mrs. Shirley Kelly turned 78 years old Sunday, May 27, and I just wanted to do something special for her. I have known her for a lot of years. She is the owner of what used to be called The Bale Store here in Henderson. Now, it has the name Family Thrift. I have dressed my children and grandchildren from her bale room. She is a sweet and kind little lady with a big heart. There are just a handful of her regular customers who gather there when her husband, David Kelly, puts out a new bale. We enjoy it and have lots of fun. We call it “therapy day” for us, and Mrs. Shirley shows a lot of love for all of us. I have seen women come and go, losing friends like that, but they stay close to our heart. Mrs. Shirley is always concerned when someone does not show up. That is the kind of person she is. A birthday card that I made and that was signed by some of her customers was presented to her. The store is opened at 10 a.m. Monday through Saturday. I do not know how she does it, standing on her feet from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., washing, ironing and neatly hanging clothes on racks, but she does. She hardly ever complains. She is always smiling and says that this is her life and she loves it. God has truly blessed her. I just want to thank her for all she does. She is still going strong.
