Here we are in the middle of August, and it is steaming hot and humid. Looks like this week we will be experiencing some dangerously hot temperatures in the 90’s with heat indexes in the 100’s. If possible, stay out of the sun and inside an air conditioned room, drink plenty of fluids and check on your neighbors. Also, remember to keep your pets cool and comfortable. If you have to be outside, please take plenty of breaks and stay hydrated.
The crops are looking good around Hickory Corner, considering all the rain we have experienced. Bill Morrison said that the corn crop is really good this year. Hopefully, this heat won’t change that.
The center will host a hamburger and hotdog supper beginning at 5 p.m. this Saturday, Aug. 17. Ladies are asked to bring a dessert or any dish to go with the meal. Also, bring wrapped gifts for bingo. All are always welcome at the center. Come and enjoy a great night of fun and fellowship.
Looking ahead, the meeting at the HCC will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 22. President Nelson Weaver invites all that are able to come to the meeting.
If you would like to rent the center for your special occasion, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.

The verse and quote below provide me strength. My hope is that they will do the same for you if you need a little extra strength and courage in your life:
Isaiah 41:10 – Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
“We gain strength, and courage, and confidence by each experience in which we really stop to look fear in the face…we must do that which we think we cannot.” – Eleanor Roosevelt
Be strong and have a great week!
