Rep. Kirk Haston met with the Theta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma to discuss upcoming education bills and his time in the TN House of Representatives.

Representative Kirk Haston met with the Theta chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma and guests at East Chester Elementary Library in Henderson on Jan. 30. He serves as vice-chair of the Education committee. Rep. Haston is a high school teacher and school health coordinator in Perry County. He discussed upcoming bills about public education. The audience also enjoyed his stories about being a freshman in the TN House of Representatives in the previous session. He is very concerned about the amount of testing that public school students face. He answered several questions about testing, as well as ways our high school students can receive more vocational training.
One of Rep. Haston’s bills requires the education department to annually compile a list of courses that may be substituted for certain high school course requirements and requires the department, by April 15 of each year, to distribute the list to each LEA and public charter high school and to the Tennessee higher education commission for distribution to high school counselors and to public institutions of higher education in this state (HB 1679).
It was a very informative evening for public educators.
