We had a wonderful time at East Chester!
Pre-K students studied “qu” words and animal homes.
In reading, kindergarten worked on “bossy r” (r-controlled vowels). They wrote informational paragraphs. Students in Mrs. Erica’s class wrote about money/coins last week, and they set up a class store where they could “buy” things with plastic coins, learn how to count by ones, fives and 10s and give the right amount of money.
First graders at East Chester worked to mentally find 10 more, 10 less, one more and one less of a two- digit number. This is a difficult concept for many first graders. Also, first graders studied more Tennessee history and heroes. They enjoy learning how to read and make maps! They celebrated the 120th day of school with many fun activities. We can not believe we only have around 60 days of school left. Ms. Leah’s class welcomes Miss Briana Crosby from Freed-Hardeman University. She will be with them helping and teaching a few lessons in math. It is a great time to be a first grader at East Chester!
Second graders just finished their study about Sequoyah. They have also been reading about “The Trail of Tears.” They continued to study nature’s life cycles. Students will be presenting the life cycle of two of the animals they have studied. They will discuss predators and how animals survive. In math, they studied measurement to the nearest inch and centimeter. Students will learn how to compare lengths.
Third graders rocked the top off of East Chester as they completed their “Trek Across Tennessee.” The students dressed the part and were so excited as they learned some social studies standards. They presented this play to the community and their friends. There was an encore presentation for their third graders classmates.
Last Tuesday, East Chester had their annual Relay for Life meal. We raised $1,186.29 for the American Cancer Society. Thank you to everyone that came out and supported this wonderful event!
RADA Cutlery and trash bag fundraiser sales end this week.
Students are taking donations for the Heart Challenge. All donations must be turned in by March 28.
