News From Jacks Creek Elementary School

By: Becky Hartle

We had a fantastic week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School!
Kindergarten really enjoyed reading stories using digraphs, blends and tricky words. February sight words are coming to an end. Please continue to practice these as they should be mastered at this point. In math we worked on addition fluency. Continue to time your child for one minute on their fluency strips. We had fun making larger shapes from smaller shapes and exploring our numbers. We are looking forward to March and Spring weather.
In first grade we learned about “New Nation” by reading about the Boston Tea Party, the Declaration of Independence and other things like that. We also read more about the Green Fern Zoo. We learned about past tense verbs and reviewed word problems with three addenda and worked on our math fact fluency.
In second grade we enjoyed starting our new science class since we have finished with writing class. We learned about motion, forces and friction. We finished our time unit in math last week and begin measurement this week. In reading we learned to find the main topic in a nonfiction story.
In third grade we learned about people that made an impact on America still to this day. We read about Black History Month, researched important people and explained how they made a difference in our lives today. We continued to learn about time. Last week, we focused more on elapsed time and counting forwards and backwards on a number line. In Social Studies we continued to learn about famous physical features in our world.
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Ben Widner, whose favorite books are books about boats and whose favorite food is pizza. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Chrissy Carter. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is Mexican food. We appreciate all that she does for our school as one of our cafeteria staff members.
Please collect Box Tops! Each Box Top equals 10 cents for our school. This is an EASY way for us to earn money for JCES! Our goal is to raise $700. Everyone can help us reach this goal!
