Jennie V. Freeman Holmes, 85, of Luray passed away March 7, 2020 at Baptist Hospital of Huntingdon.
Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Thursday March 12, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Bro. Tony Polk and Larry Wilkerson officiating.
Burial will be 1 p.m. Friday, March 13, at Memory Hill Gardens in Bartlett. The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue from 1-3 p.m. Thursday.
She was born Dec. 18, 1934 in Chester County, in the Talley Town Community, the daughter of the late William Nelson and Mallie Thomas Browder Freeman. She attended school in Chester County.
She married Robert Paul Holmes of Luray in 1951. They made their home in Memphis for over 56 years, where Mr. Holmes owned and operated Term City Furniture. In 2003, they moved to Luray where he started a new business Mifflin Community Mall. Mr. Holmes passed away in 2009. She continued to make her home in the Luray community since that time.
She loved her family and her grandchildren and loved to travel. She was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Sandra (Tim) Tucker; three grandchildren, Shane Tucker, Josh Tucker and Colby Holmes; and 10 great-grandchildren, Hunter Tucker, Mason Tucker, Emma Tucker, Madison Tucker, Logan Tucker, Faith Tucker, Julianna Jarratt, Collin Jarratt, Konnor Burk and Jenna V. Holmes.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Ricky Lynn Holmes and Paul Randall Holmes in 2003; brothers, Nelson Raymond Freeman, Manley Earl Freeman and Dosey Lewis Freeman; and sisters, Geneva Ann Wren, Imogene Blakley, Irene Freeman, Mae Edna Messer and Maxine Bain.
