Alice Melton – Aug. 13, 1931 – March 30, 2020


Alice Isobel (Nitzi) Moffitt Melton left this world into the arms of Jesus on Monday, March 30, 2020. A memorial will be held by her family at a later time.
She was born Aug. 13, 1931, the daughter of Col. Laurence Moffitt and Alice Ingram Moffitt. 
She married Bill Melton in 1949, and they made their home in Chester and Madison County.
She was an accomplished seamstress and hairdresser by trade for many years. In her younger years, she was active in the DAR and American Legion.  She had a beautiful voice and sang in the church choir at First Baptist Church in Henderson for many years.
In later years, she sang with the Lady Barbershoppers Chorus in Jackson. She was a very talented artist and painted many oils and watercolor landscapes for her family to cherish. One of her final works was the mural in the basement at Jackson Madison County General Hospital done as a volunteer. The artwork was inspired by cancer patients and the pictures they brought her to recreate into the mural.
She is survived by her children, James L. “Chuck” (Martha) Melton, Lydia (David) Smith and Alice “Bitzi” (Billy) Wyatt; grandchildren, Jill (Trei) Bland, Lauren (Chad) Walden, Taylor (Kyndall) Smith, Mary Wyatt, Holly (Brandon) Lyles, Katie (Jacob) Bridger, Travis (Cody) Wyatt and Nikol Haynes; and 14 great-grandchildren, Riley Bland, Levi Silvers, Emmy Walden, Mae Walden, Mollie Walden, Jacob Kincaid, Bryan Kincaid, Kaleb Kincaid, Samantha Bridger, Carley Bridger, Gavin Green, Avery Green, Bryson Lyles and Hadley Smith.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a brother, Larry Moffitt; one sister, Glenna Rodgers; a son, Billy Melton; one granddaughter, Rose Melton; a grandson, Christopher Wyatt and one great-grandson, Mason Green.
