Non-profits have been hit hard during the times of COVID-19 all from having to close down facilities or not being capable of holding fundraising opportunities and more.
Local resident, Beth Everett, and her business Cookies for Cancer, has continued to serve and help The American Cancer Society raise funds.
Through her many desserts and meals that she makes, Everett sells them to the community and all the proceeds go to The American Cancer Society.
“We are so appreciative of people like her that have made an effort to fundraise in any way possible during the midst of this COVID-19 virus,” said Elizabeth Stokes, ACS staff member for Chester County. “People like Beth and others are helping us to keep pushing forward during such an uncertain time and we are so thankful.”
Stokes told how much the pandemic has impacted the organization.
“The reality is that cancer has not stopped and neither has the need to support cancer patients. This is an incredibly challenging time for non-profits,” Stokes said. “We had to close our Hope Lodges where we house cancer patients and their families for free while they receive treatment. They had to be closed due to the risk of the virus spreading amongst a group of immune-compromised cancer patients.”
Recently, Everett had a Mother’s Day drawing. If someone bought one of her desserts from cakes, to cookies, cheesecake and more, they could enter their Mother’s name for a chance to win a flower arrangement from Essary’s Florist and gift cards/coupons to local restaurants: Ada’s Country Store and Cafe, Besso’s, Brenda’s Kitchen, Chow Wagon, The Fiesta, Oden’s Liquor Store, Pop’s BBQ, Simple City Dog Gone Dogs, Snookum’s and Sweetly Ever After.
Haley Yarbrough entered her mother Deborah Yarbrough into the Mother’s Day drawing, and Deborah won all the goodies.
