Owen Edward McKinney, 85, of Pinson passed away July 15, 2020 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Private funeral services were held at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Glenn Harris officiating. Burial followed at New Friendship Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to New Friendship Cemetery Fund: 720 New Friendship Road, Beech Bluff, TN 38313.
He was born July 23, 1934 in Sale Creek, the son of the late James Arlen and Elizabeth Aslinger McKinney. He went to school at Sale Creek. He served four years in the U.S. Navy, serving aboard the USS Oriskany.
He married Doris Bain in 1965. They made their home in California for three years and moved to Pinson in 1968. He worked his adult career in home construction. He was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church, where he had served as a deacon and served on several committees at the church. He was an original member of the Labours Quartet. He enjoyed gospel music, farming, fishing and camping with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Doris Bain McKinney of Pinson; five sons, Garey (Debbie) Gaugh of Beech Bluff, Thomas (Teresa) Gaugh, Sr. of Pinson, Lee (Diane) Gaugh of Jackson, Neil (Lori) Gaugh of Henderson and Curt (Paula) McKinney of Pinson; a daughter, Darla Gaugh of Pinson; nine grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Creed (Nadine) McKinney of Richmond, Va.; and two sisters, Betty Chester of Dayton and Nora (Duke) King of Sale Creek.
