For more than 60 years, Mid-South Youth Camp has been a summer retreat for hundreds of campers.
While camp is not happening in the traditional way this summer, Mid-South Youth Camp hosted a groundbreaking ceremony for its new dining hall Monday, Aug. 3.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, MSYC staff canceled its annual fish fry fundraiser scheduled for July 25, and reshaped events to connect with campers in unique ways.
Some recent events include a virtual bonfire, a “Warm Fuzzy Challenge” and a “Finger lickin’ barbeque Chicken” drive-through fundraiser, which raised $6,697.81 for camp.
MSYC completed its strongest year (June 2019-May 2020) in a decade, raising more than 95 percent of the funds needed for its new dining hall and outdoor game room and added new members to the camp board.
From its modest beginning as a two-week camp at Chickasaw State Park, the camp has expanded to eight weeks each summer on a 77-acre site outside Henderson.
