Greetings from Hickory Corner! As I write this on Monday, it is a very hot day. Remember to stay hydrated in this hot weather. Also, make sure your animals have plenty of fresh water. Animals get overheated and dehydrated the same way we do. I have noticed more birds flocking to my bird bath, and the hummingbirds seem to enjoy drinking their sweet nectar. I did read where you should change out your hummingbird nectar every few days in hot weather as the nectar can ferment. Hummingbirds will stay away once that happens.
A meeting was held at the center in July. No plans were made at that time for a fundraiser event due to COVID-19. Hopefully, we will be able to have something before the year ends, but safety first. HCC members, a reminder that membership dues were payable in May. If you have not paid your dues, it is not too late. You can send your dues to Sarah Holmes at 720 Holmes Rd., Henderson, TN. We would like to keep all our members and even get some new ones. I look forward to seeing all of you back at our Center where we have a lot of fun and fellowship.
I received a call from Lonnie Morton of Memphis who just wanted to check in on me and the other folks of Hickory Corner. He and Shirley are doing fine, and both miss their friends here. They enjoy coming to the events at the community center to see everyone. Stay well and safe, Lonnie and Shirley.
I also talked to Walt Bennett this week. I asked if I could bring him anything, and he put in an order for muffins. So, the muffin lady will be in the kitchen tomorrow making banana muffins or zucchini muffins. I encourage everyone to make a phone call to a family member or a friend to let them know you are thinking of them. Many are experiencing loneliness. It will lift your spirit and theirs as well.
Happy Anniversary this month to Earl and Patsy Clayton. Also, happy belated birthday to Dianne Kessler (8/8).
Now about this virus. We have to practice the three Cs – calm, caution and common sense – and pray we will get through this virus outbreak. It seems to be more widespread. Folks, get on board and do your part by wearing a mask when out around others.
Remember in prayer: Arlan Porter, Walt and Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ronnie and Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Mary Alice and Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Jim Ruth, W.T. Roland, Peggy Lard and Buck Burkhead. Also, pray for our country. If you would like to add or remove a name to our list, please call me. Remember: prayers can not be answered unless they are prayed. Hickory Corner Community expresses sympathy and prayers to the following on the loss of their loved one: Nathan Johnson family, Leon Carroll family, Joyce Cupples family and Danny Tacker family.
If you would like to rent the HCC center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159. Please call me at 989-3315 with any news and tidbits. It is difficult to write this column without the help of the readers. I welcome any news you would like to share.
Make it a great week!
