Maintenance on the Holly Beshires Memorial park is continuing steadily. Mayor Beshires expects to be purchasing the adjacent lot soon with the grant money allotted. Silerton has several new faces running for Alderman positions this year. Candidates have been busy collecting signatures throughout the week.
Mary Lynn Lambert related that Silerton Baptist Church hosted a catered meal Sunday, Aug. 9. Social distancing was practiced, and everyone enjoyed fellowshipping.
In other church news, Lambert reminds anyone interested that Piney Grove Baptist Church will be having a revival Aug. 28-30. Night services will begin at 7 p.m.
For those of you who know Roger and Wanda King, Lambert also shared that Samuel and Rachel Gaffney (the King’s daughter) just had a son, Titus. The couple is living in Vancleave, Miss., where Samuel serves in the military. Rachel spent many years in Silerton.
Lots of folks are taking their last trips before the school year resumes. Ricky Wilson and family are visiting Kansas this week.
Kevin and I are preparing to host my brother and friends who will be visiting from California. We plan to have a cookout and enjoy the city park. The apples on one of our apple trees have started to ripen, and we look forward to Linda Beshires making one of her amazing apple pies.
