The following letter from the Chester County Board of Education was sent out in regards to virtual school enrollment.
Stakeholders, Chester County Schools are committed to the safety, well-being, and education of students enrolled with the district, including those enrolled as virtual learners. After review of the virtual school data, the following decisions have been made by the district leaders with the best interests of our students in mind. Please keep in mind that zero (0) cases of school contacts for COVID-19 have developed into an active viral case. Also, no students in Chester County Schools have been contact-traced to have contracted case of COVID-19 from a school contact. The data indicates that our safety and cleanliness protocols are effective and have not led to any instances of community spread of COVID-19. We are thankful for the diligence of all of our school staff in ensuring that students and staff members remain safe and healthy.
Virtual School Enrollment Updates: (To check your child’s progress, select the parent login button on the PLP login screen and use your child’s username and password.)
1.) Students who are identified by SchoolsPLP to be “far behind” in academic performance will be required to return to physical school after fall break. This would require these students to report to physical school beginning Monday, October 19, 2020. School staff will begin reaching out to these families this week to ensure these families are notified of this new expectation. Students in this category also will NOT be allowed to seek re-enrollment in the virtual school for the second semester of the 2020-2021 school year beginning January 2021.
2.) Students who are identified by SchoolsPLP to be “behind” in academic performance will be allowed to remain enrolled in the virtual school, but will be closely monitored for academic improvement. If improvement is not demonstrated by Monday, December 7, 2020, these students will be required to return to physical school on January 5, 2021. Any student who falls into this classification will be allowed to return to physical school after fall break, if they choose. Families who select this option must reach out to their child’s school administrator to notify them of this request by noon on Thursday, October 8, 2020. Students opting to return should report to physical school beginning Monday, October 19, 2020. Students who choose to return to physical school after fall break will NOT be considered for re-enrollment in the virtual school in January 2021.
3.) Students who are identified by SchoolsPLP to be “on track” will be allowed to remain enrolled in the virtual school, if they choose. Families who select to return to the school’s physical setting must reach out to their child’s school administrator to notify them of this request by noon on Thursday, October 8, 2020. Students who opt to return should report to physical school beginning Monday, October 19, 2020. Students who choose to return to physical school after fall break will NOT be considered for re-enrollment in the virtual school in January 2021.
These decisions have been made with the best interest of our learners and families in mind. Again, our priority is to the safety, well-being, and education of our students.
