CCHS Cross Country goes to State for third year in a row

Chester County High School Girls’ Soccer, Volleyball, boys’ and girls’ golf and Cross Country all represented Chester County during regionals this year, but the CCHS Boys’ Cross Country team is the only team from fall sports that will be competing at State.
Competing at 10:40 a.m. this morning, Thursday Nov. 5, the cross country team will be racing at their third State meet in a row at Sanders Ferry Park in Hendersonville.
Runners Carter Welch and Tucker Allen, now juniors, have been a part of CCHS cross country in the midst of the streak.
Their freshman year the cross country team got 20th at state, and during their sophomore year the team earned 13th.
This year, though it is a rebuilding year for the team, they are confident they can still have some success.
“It’s a rebuilding year, and just because you’re rebuilding doesn’t mean you can’t win,” Allen said.
Welch and Allen have been the leaders of the team, since there are no seniors.
“Carter and Tucker have been by far the best leaders of these boys,” said Cross Country Coach Stephanie Hatch.
Freshman Garret Robison has helped out a lot as a freshman from completing runs under 18 minutes.
It’s fun to be able to run with some upperclassmen and go to state my first year,” Robison said. “It’s going to be a good experience, and I can definitely learn from it.”
Between the three of them along with teammates Cade Thompson and Stewart Brown who make up the top five, they have strong chemistry on the team that is a factor to their successes Hatch says.
“They have friendly competition among themselves that only push them to do better,” she said. “They support each other. That’s one of the best things about watching them… They’re a good bunch.”
