It was another incredible week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School! Read on to hear all of the exciting things we are learning!
Kindergarten had a great week. A few skills we worked on included letter sounds and blending words to read, sight words and comparing groups of up to 10 to find out which one has more or less. Progress reports go home Nov. 19, and Thanksgiving break will be Nov. 25-27.
We had a busy week in first grade. We finished our read aloud unit on the human body. We began reading the fairytale, “Cinderella.” We read more stories from our “Gran” book. We learned some new tricky words, reviewed nouns and continued identifying long and short vowels in words. We read and wrote about being thankful. We also started working on 2-D shapes and their attributes. Ms. Vic and Ms. Kady look forward to another wonderful week next week.
In second grade reading we continued to learn about westward expansion. We learned about the Oregon Trail, the steamboat, the Erie Canal and Sequoyah. We continued to learn reading skills focusing on long “a” vowel sounds. In math we learned addition strategies to help us solve problems correctly and fluently. In Social Studies we learned about the U.S. Constitution and the Tennessee Constitution.
Our third graders continued our space mission as we read and write to learn about our universe in language arts. Multiplication is still our focus as it is a very important part of life in the math world from here on out. The solar system projects were so amazing, and the students all did a wonderful job of presenting them! We were so excited to see them and share photos with you! Thank you for all your help to make this project such a success! We worked on world geography in social studies to learn more about our planet Earth. Here we learned about landforms, continents and their major countries and features and oceans. Please encourage your child to read, think deeper and practice multiplication facts at home. These will help them continue to grow!
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Jesse Davenport, whose favorite books series is the Goosebumps and whose favorite food is cheese sticks. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Kady Mitchell. Her favorite books are the Bible and “Nibbles the Book Monster,” and her favorite food is sushi. We appreciate all that she does as one of our first grade teachers.
As the temperature continues to fall, remember to label your child’s winter clothing items (jackets, coats, hats, etc.). We already have several jackets hanging on our lost and found rack.
The Chester County School System is now recognized as a critical infrastructure. This policy now requires students third grade and above to wear masks.
