Greetings from Hickory Corner!
The holidays are coming up on us. Thanksgiving and Christmas are where we have family get-togethers and large celebrations, but what do we do about the holidays this year since the virus is still here and it is dangerous? I do not know the answer. It will be hard to stay away from the family you love, yet at the same time, you want to keep your loved ones safe. Many of us will miss being with our family and friends. Definitely smaller gatherings are better than larger ones. Thanksgiving 2020 will look much different this year for me. In the past I have had my children and grandchildren from Illinois visit for Thanksgiving, and we enjoyed a traditional Thanksgiving meal with turkey, dressing and all the trimmings. However, with Illinois in a rapid surge with COVID-19 cases, they have all decided to stay home as they do not want to risk me getting sick. My granddaughter is a teacher, and her school has positive cases. She said that there is no way for her to quarantine before coming. My grandson Matt, who lives in Chicago, will not be coming either. I will miss all of them, but the important thing is for all of us to be safe. Whatever your plans are for the holidays, please be safe.
COVID-19 is everywhere, and I know we have quite a few cases around Hickory Corner. Just be careful when you go out. Please wear your mask, practice social distancing and keep those hands washed.
Remember that many of those infected with the virus may not be showing symptoms yet, but they can still spread the virus. I read where people are contagious several days before having symptoms. This is why it is important for you and me to wear a mask and protect each other.
The Hickory Corner Community extends sympathy to the families of Ilaine Weaver Davidson and Carolyn Russom Armor. They both grew up around Hickory Corner and attended Hickory Corner School. They both are kin to Bonice Martin. Bonice said that she has many happy memories of Ilaine and Carolyn.
Remember in prayer Arlan Porter, Walt and Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Mary Alice and Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Jim Ruth, W.T. Roland, Peggy Lard and William Luttrell. Continue to pray for those who are dealing with COVID-19 and for those who have lost loved ones. If you would like to add or remove a name to our prayer list, please call me.
Thanksgiving: “Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise: be thankful unto Him, and bless His name. For the Lord is good; His mercy is everlasting; and His truth endureth to all generations.” – Psalms 100:4-5
