Late free throws push Lady Lions past Red Hawks
It took two free throws with 12 seconds remaining by Alyssa LeMay for the Lady Lions (8-10, 2-9 MSC) to knock off Martin Methodist (2-4, 3-4 MSC) 62-60 on Monday night.
The Lady Lions never trailed in the contest, leading by as many as 13 points in the first half. Hannah Hughes was a force down low, scoring 16 points in the half.
The Red Hawks came back strong in the second half, though, feeding Laurhen Pickett down low and putting a lot of pressure on the Lady Lions defensively.
Martin Methodist was able to tie the game at 54 with just under six minutes in the contest, and even had a chance to take the lead when Pickett scored and got fouled, but missed the free throw.
That is when LeMay was able to draw a foul away from the basket with 12 second to go, making both free throws to take the lead.
The Lady Lions were able to force a tough shot as time expired, and Martin Methodist was unable to knock it down.
LeMay led the Lady Lions in scoring with 17 points and pulled down 12 rebounds for the double-double.
Hughes also added 10 rebounds to complete her double-double, and Taryn Kile came off the bench to make three huge 3-pointers for 11 points total.
