We had a fantastic week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School! Read on to hear what exciting things we learned about as we prepare for our end of the year testing!
Kindergarten had a fantastic week! Students continued to work hard on important skills, such as reading words with blends and digraphs, sentence writing, counting by one, 10s and fives and subtracting fluently. The deadline to order cap and gown pictures is April 19. They can be viewed/purchased online at www.white-designs.com/spring2. You can also purchase with the order form that was sent home. If using the order form, please send cash or a check made out to JCES.
We had a great week! We began reading fairy tales such as “Sleeping Beauty,” “Rumpelstiltskin” and “Rapunzel.” We also began a new skills unit in which we are reading stories, learning about question marks and periods and learning more about root words and endings. In spelling we reviewed r controlled vowel words. In writing we wrote an opinion about our favorite candy. In math we finished up learning about tables, charts and graphs. Then, we began learning about counting coins. Our boys and girls worked so hard. Ms. Vic and Ms. Kady are so proud of our boys and girls.
In second grade we learned to count money. Please help us at home with this math skill since we missed out on it last school year. Also we reviewed ALL other math skills we have been taught this school year. As we prepared for our upcoming TCAP and iReady tests in Reading and Math, we worked hard to review all the major skills we have learned in second grade. We will be taking TCAP tests the week of April 26 and trying to show how ready we are to go to third grade.
It is hard to believe this school year is in the home stretch! Third grade had so much to do with practicing and preparing for TCAP tests coming up and continuing to learn new math standards. These will certainly keep us busy in the next few weeks! In addition to this prep work and practice, we learned about measurement in math, specifically liquid volume in standard metric units and capacity. The kids did great! We can really see just how far they have come! Keep encouraging and helping them practice the skills they have learned. Thanks for all you do!
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Raelynn Copeland, who says his favorite books are Dr. Suess books and his favorite food is mac and cheese. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Kyle Cupples. His favorite books are non-fiction books, and his favorite food is a cheeseburger! We appreciate all that he does as our resource officer!
We appreciate everyone that participated in our spring family reading promotion in March. We had approximately 50 students return the forms. Prizes will be awarded next week.
