Freed-Hardeman Lady Lions complete perfect home season with sweep over Cumberland


The No. 13 Lady Lions (31-9, 19-7 MSC) finished off their season at home with a four-game sweep over Cumberland (7-19, 5-15 MSC) with 6-3 and 5-1 wins on Saturday afternoon, bringing their home record to 20-0 on the season.
After the Phoenix scored in the top of the first inning in game one, the Lady Lions tied it when Catherine Crabb scored on a Cumberland error.
They added three more runs to take a 4-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning when Laiken Page, Allie Mitchell and Kennedy Harris all crossed the plate.
After the Phoenix got a run back in the fourth, the Lady Lions added two in the bottom of the fifth to make it 6-2 when Crabb drove in Annalise Jarnagin and Samantha Morgan on a bases-loaded single up the middle. Cumberland would get a run back in the seventh inning, but would fall short of the comeback.
Morgan Crawford earned the win in the contest after four and two-thirds innings pitched.
In the final game of the series, the Lady Lions jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead thanks to a two-run double hit by Caitlin Mitchell.
After Cumberland scored in the top of the second inning, the Lady Lions made it a 5-1 game on a three-run bomb by Jarnagin in the bottom of the third.
Brittany Adair struck out 10 batters in the complete-game win while not surrendering a walk.
The Lady Lions will conclude their regular season on Friday and Saturday when they travel to Martin Methodist for a four-game series. Games one and two are set to start at 3 p.m. on Friday, with game three starting at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
