John DeBerry will speak at Freed-Hardeman University graduation

John DeBerry, a senior advisor to Tennessee Governor Bill Lee, will speak at Freed-Hardeman University’s spring commencement exercises at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 15, in Loyd Auditorium.
Prior to being appointed a senior advisor to Governor Lee last year, DeBerry served in the Tennessee House of Representatives for House District 90 from 1995-2020. During his tenure in the House, he served on the House Education Committee, House Education Administration and Planning Subcommittee, Finance Ways and Means Committee and Finance Ways and Means Subcommittee. He also served two terms as the Democrat Caucus Minority Leader Pro Tempore.
An alumnus of Freed-Hardeman College, DeBerry now serves on the university’s Board of Trustees. He has been a minister for churches of Christ since 1968. He currently serves Coleman Avenue Church of Christ in Memphis. He worked with Parkway Village Church of Christ for 28 years.
DeBerry is president of John J. Deberry and Associates. He has more than 25 years of experience as a marketing, advertising and public relations executive.
In addition to graduating from Freed-Hardeman, he is a graduate of Memphis State University. He also studied marketing and computer programming at Christian Brothers University.
He was married to his wife, Georgia, for more than 40 years prior to her death in 2015. The Deberrys have two daughters, Chevida and Victoria.
Due to COVID-19, attendance at commencement will be limited. Each graduate will be permitted to have four guests who will be issued ticketed seats. Masks will be required.
