It was such a great week here at Jacks Creek Elementary School! Read on to hear what wonderful things we are learning before the school year comes to an end!
Kindergarten had a great week! A few things students worked hard on this week included reading and sentence writing, counting to 100 by ones, 10s, and fives and subtracting fluently. Students practiced for our end of the year awards day program. Thanks to our PSO and everyone who provided special treats, food, and gifts during teacher appreciation week.
We had a busy week full of learning and iReady benchmark testing in first grade. We started learning about English colonists, Native Americans and how the Thirteen Colonies came to be. We have read stories in “Kate’s Book.” In our stories Kate and Max found a T-Rex bone and took it to the bone man so he could analyze the bone. We learned that we can not keep things that we find at state parks. In math we continued working with word problems for adding and subtracting while working on math fact fluency.
In second grade we worked diligently to finish up end of the year testing. We have worked hard all year and are ready for third grade. We reviewed reading and math skills with centers. We also worked hard to prepare for Awards Day. We look forward to seeing you there!
In third grade we have begun reading The Lemonade Wars. This is a great novel that students can relate to and that can teach students how to properly read a novel and how to deconstruct it. We want to teach these skills before going to fourth grade. In math we wrapped up our word problem unit. We learned how to solve two-step word problems and found key words to tell us what operation. Please watch for notes going home with your child.
Our Farmer of the Week goes to Avery Willis who says her favorite books are books about Ariel and her favorite food is apples. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Farmer of the Week goes to Kaela Autry. Her favorite book is Heaven Is for Real, and her favorite food is Mexican food! We appreciate all that she does as our nurse!

JCES yearbooks will be given out on Thursday, May 13, to students who pre-ordered. There is a very limited supply of extra yearbooks available for $15 (cash only) each; no holds, first-come, first-served.
We greatly appreciate all you have done to support our students and school during the 2020-21 school year. Even through the challenges related to COVID-19 pandemic, your continued support and encouragement has helped us stay the course and provide learning experiences for our students. It is such a joy and privilege to watch our students learn and grow at JCES!
This year, we will not be able to have a public-attended field day, BUT Coach Debbie is planning “field day” activities for our students to participate and enjoy. Please make sure your child dresses appropriately on the following days: K-First Grade: May 19 and Second-Third Grade: May 20. If you choose to send sunscreen, please be sure it is labeled with your child’s name.
