Juneteenth is celebrated in Henderson/Chester County

The Oasis Community Development Corporation and Divine Destiny Ministries hosted another Juneteenth celebration this year on Saturday, June 19.
Juneteenth is the commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States that originated in Galveston, Texas during 1866.
The organizations has been celebrating the holiday the holiday since 2019 at the North Chester field, but what made this year special is the fact that President Joe Biden signed and made it a federal holiday on Thursday, June 17.
Organizer Marles Flowers explained why everyone is celebrating.
“The government, the senate and the president saw fit to make Juneteenth an annual holiday. A day where we can be noted and celebrated for our strive to freedom… We’re continuously moving in that direction,” Flowers said. “We’re excited about it. We look forward to many more. We’re pulling Henderson together from the north, south, east, and west. We’re coming together; black, white, jew, gentile all mixes of this society are joining together to celebrate juneteenth.”
