News from the Henderson Community of Chester County

with Gloria Holiday

Hello to everyone!
It is good to be here with you one more time. For this is the day the Lord has made, so let us be happy in it and take one day at a time.
This week will be a very busy week for SWHRA Head Start department. It was the first week back for the teachers, teacher assistants and classroom aides. They are getting ready for their children to enter into the room. Head Start is taking applications for three and four year old children. Child must be three or four years old by Aug. 5, 2021 for the 2021-22 school year. No fees for services. The Family Case Managers Lisa Brantley, 608-9102, and Kristyl Hansen, 608-9049, are taking applications by phone. Children do not have to be potty trained. You can also call the Head Start Center, 989-2561, or the SWHRA Head Start Office, 989-5111.
The BIG Back to School Bash is Saturday, July 25, at Chester County Middle School. School supplies and backpacks will be available. They will be conducting physicals if needed, and resource information will be available for you to pick up. The place to be for Chester County students is at Chester County Middle school starting at 8 a.m. Hope to see you there.
I would like to go back in time to June 29. There was a very special couple that celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary here in Chester County. Someone once said, “A good marriage is the union of two good forgivers,” and I believe that. To Mr. Bill and Mrs. Lorene Overway, we hope you had a wonderful anniversary, and we pray the Lord keeps on blessing you with love for each other and good health.
On Saturday, I was shopping at our Dollar Tree here in Henderson. The Dollar Tree is an excellent place to shop. It is always clean, and the workers are always so friendly. I ran into a young man who told me he was 108 years old. He was there with his granddaughter. He said, “I am 108 years old, and the reason I have so much energy and can kick my leg up this high is because I drink armadillo juice and eat armadillos.” I told him that I do not believe he is 108 and I do not eat armadillos. I told him that I was going to put this story in my column this week. He told me when I do to tell the people he lived in Toone and is married to a lady in Chester County, whom I will not name. You would know whom I am talking about. His story was that if you eat armadillos you could live to be 108 years old. He said, “I will be making armadillo dressing for Thanksgiving.” He will leave me some of the dressing at his wife’s parents house. I told him thank you but no thank you! So the moral of the story is you do not have to go and spend lots of money to stay young looking, according to this gentleman. Go catch you an armadillo. So if anyone knows who this person is, please give me a call because I told him that he is not 108 and I will not be eating no one’s armadillos. This was just a funny story to me, and I wanted to share it with you. Do not go and eat or drink armadillo’s meat or juice unless you check with your doctor.
Happy Birthday shout out to Debra McAnally on July 20. She is 56 years young. Debra, I know you had a wonderful birthday celebration! Just remember that if you turn the numbers around you will can apply for the red, white and blue card. The City of Henderson loves you, and we pray the Lord will bless you with many more!
Continue to pray for our children, teachers and families, for the men and women that are serving our country and also for the incarcerated. Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can.
