School is off to a great start. (Almost) everyone is happy to be back in the classroom and enjoying a somewhat normal year. And a new school year means fall sports are in full swing.
Volleyball hosted Dyersburg in their season opener Monday. Cross Country traveled to Dresden Tuesday. Both of our golf teams will play at Chickasaw and girls soccer will travel to play Madison Academic Thursday. Football will host Fayette Ware Friday night at Eagle Stadium.
The students are excited to be back but so are the teachers. I spoke to some teachers and asked them how they feel about being back to in person learning. Our clinical internship and nursing teacher as well as our CTE coordinator, Ginger McPherson said, “Being at school is the best place for students to learn. Virtual was optional but is not the best environment to learn.” Personally, I am happy to be in school again for in person learning, without masks I might add. It’s much easier to learn in a classroom versus trying to manage at home without personal instruction. I am thankful for the Chester County School System and the leaders that make the tough decisions daily.
Each week I plan to spotlight a sport or individual athlete and recognize their talents and accomplishments. This week I want to spotlight our volleyball team. Lead by head coach Susan Humphryand assistant Emily Ellis, the team has 19 dates on their schedule before tournaments start in October. Three seniors, Kara Pipkin, Emma Compton, and Trinity Geary, are returning for their final season. Kara and Emma are the team captains for the eagles. Coach Humphrey has big goals for their season. She said, “Our goal this season is to win the District Tournament. We feel that our biggest competition will be Lexington. They are a very good team and we are looking forward to the competition and another great season.”
We want to wish all of our sports team a successful and healthy season. Thank you, Henderson and Chester County for your continued support.
Good bless and Go Eagles!
