News from Jacks Creek Elementary School

By: Becky Hartle

We had a great second week of school at Jacks Creek Elementary School! We have done some exciting things as we have slowly gotten into the routine of being our best learners at school!
Kindergarten had a great week! Students learned rules and procedures for the school and classroom. We focused on social skills such as being a good listener and getting along with others. Students learned about the color word red, practiced writing their first name and traced lines to work on motor skills.
Our first grade boys and girls are settling in well. They are adjusting to first grade rules and procedures and doing great! We worked hard to review kindergarten skills. However, the boys and girls are excited to begin working on learning those first grade skills next week. They wrote about their favorite summer memory and why they feel they are “Super First Graders.”
In second grade we reviewed consonants and vowels and the different sounds they make. We also practiced writing good sentences. We begin our study of Fairy Tales and Tall Tales this week in reading and continue our focus on vowel sounds and writing sentences. In math we learned more about Place Value, including Skip Counting by 5s, 10s, 2s and 100s, and Comparing Numbers. These are skills easily practiced at home, so we would appreciate extra help after school.
In third grade, we started our CKLA unit. We are reading “Wind in the Willows” and about a not so brave knight named Sir Gus. In math we learned how to add and subtract fluently. In Social Studies we studied major physical features, such as island, mountain, bay, etc.
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Rhylie Taylor, who says her favorite books are the “Junie B. Jones” book series and her favorite food is spaghetti. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to Terri Edgin. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite food is shrimp! We appreciate all that she does as one of our secretaries!
SCHOOL INFORMATION: Our new year is in full swing! We know that parents have had a lot of “homework,” reading a lot of information, filling out forms, etc. This information is very important; therefore, please feel free to contact the school if you have any questions. If there are forms that have not been returned, please send to school ASAP.
PSO Membership Drive is Aug. 18- Sept. 8. We are thankful for our families and stakeholders in the community who support JCES. Encourage family, friends, and neighbors to become a member of the JCES Parent Support Organization. This is a great way for people in our community to invest in our students, the future leaders and citizens of Chester County. More details coming soon!
Are You Connected? JCES uses the Remind App to communicate information to parents. If you have not joined or if you have changed phone numbers, please text @ccsdces to 81010.
Looking Ahead:
Aug. 19 – Fall Picture Day
Sept. 2 – Progress Reports
Sept. 6 – NO SCHOOL (Labor Day)
