MIKE BURKHEAD Obituary – FEB. 12, 1946 – AUG. 31, 2021


Harry Michael Burkhead, 75, of Pinson passed away Aug. 31, 2021 at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
Funeral Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, at Faith Fellowship Church with Bro. Ken Frye officiating.
Burial will follow in Hearn’s Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Faith Fellowship Church from 9:30-1 p.m. service time on Friday.
He was born Feb. 12, 1946 in Henderson, the son of the late L.T. and Jessie Melvina Ridley Burkhead. He was a 1964 graduate of Chester County High School. He worked the family farm growing up.
He became dispatcher for the Chester County Sheriff’s Department and then Deputy Sheriff for several years. In 1983 he became Director of the Chester County Emergency Management retiring in 2011. Concurrently, he worked as Fire Chief of Chester County Volunteer Fire Department.
He married Louise Buford on May 7, 1984. They made their home in Chester County. He was a member of the Faith Fellowship Church, where he served as a deacon.
He was a Charter Member of the Chester County Rescue Squad, a volunteer with the Civil Air Patrol, a life member of the NRA and a life member of Sons of Confederate Veterans and Ham Radio Operator who loved sending Morse code all over the world. His call sign was K4TC. He served in the TN Army National Guard from 1964 until 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Louise Buford Burkhead of Pinson; son, Chris (Kelly) Robert of Henderson; grandsons, Hunter Roberts and James (Kayla) Taylor, Jr.; two great-grandchildren, Cason Taylor and Kinsley Taylor; brothers, Douglas (Pat) Burkhead of Henderson and Danny Joe Woods of Henderson; sisters, Delores Hatch of Henderson and Helen (Daryl) Weaver of Burkburnett, Texas.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Tommy Keith Burkhead, and a sister, Dorothy Turner.
