By Carter Welch

Both Chester Co. High School cross country teams continued their season this past Thursday at Lexington. Even without three of their top runners, the boys’ team still managed to get third place as a team and only missed first place by eight points.
Garrett Robision (third) and Cade Thompson (eighth) placed in the top 10 followed by Josh Roberts at 19th, Zach Roberts at 28th, and Brooks Johnson at 58th to give the Eagles a team score of 107. The girls’ team placed 8th with Eden Burleson, Julia Briggs, and Lilly Allen all in the top 40 with Abby Sells and Makenna Jacobs rounding out the top 5 for CCHS.
The boys’ team and Julia Briggs had a quick turnaround from Lexington as they competed in Memphis Twilight Saturday night. Julia Briggs got a big PR at 23:59.44 as she placed 33rd out of 197 runners in the girls JV race. The boys Varsity race started at 8:40 that night and six out of the seven Eagle runners ran a 5K PR.
Out of 371 runners from five different states, Tucker Allen placed eighth, Carter Welch 47th, Garrett Robision 86th followed by Cade Thompson, Josh Roberts, Zach Roberts, and Brooks Johnson. The top five had a team score of 459 placing them 13th out of 47 teams.
The girls’ team will race at Milan Middle School on September 9 and then Huntingdon on September 14.
The boys’ team will have this week off to train before having two races the following week: Huntingdon on September 14 and then Southern Showcase in Huntsville, AL on September 18.
