Hello to everyone! For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glade in it!
What a wonderful, wonderful week we had. The cool weather was just great. Fall is almost here. The first day of Autumn is Sept. 22. This is my favorite time of the year. It is the time when the leaves start changing colors and a time of harvest. Lord, thank you for another season that is about to come.
Saturday, Sept. 11, I was at home watching the services of all of the 9/11 families. I do not know about how you felt, but my heart cried out for the families as tears rolled down my face. It has been a whole new generation born since that horrible attack happened. As you look at your family and loved ones, please remember the families from 9/11 and our U.S. troops from Afghanistan in your prayers.
But on another sad note, condolences from the City of Henderson go to the McHaney family. We will miss Ada, her loving touch as a mother, grandmother, sister and friend, her kind words and her wonderful smile. Please accept our most heartfelt sympathies for your loss. Our thoughts are with the family during this difficult time. Peace, Prayers and Blessings are with you.
A big shout out to all the grandparents who celebrated Grandparents Day on Sunday! As a grandparent, I can say that I do love my children; however, there is something about those grandchildren and great-grandchildren when they come and visit you. So happy belated Grandparents Day! Tell your grandchildren to do something special for you.
Thirty-eight years ago, on Sept. 16, my husband and I were living in the state of South Carolina. On that date the Lord blessed up with our son. He was a still born baby, but the Lord gave him back to us. You see the umbilical cord was wrapped around his neck. My husband and I started to pray for our son. Like I said, the Lord gave him back to us! He has traveled around the world, and today, he is a Captain in the U.S. Army. He and his wife are expecting a baby boy to join the family soon. This will be my second grandchild. He was stationed in Germany, but now, he is back in the U.S.A. So when he reads our Independent at his new duty station, he will know that the city of Henderson wants to wish him a Happy Birthday and to say thank you for serving our Country.
Happy belated birthday to Theresa Burton, 9/7; the proud grandson of Mr. Bill and Lorene Overway, Alex Overway, 9/11; Doalian Wilson, 9/12; Tammy Massengill, 9/11; my nephew, Edward Reeves, 9/18; my sister, Sylvia Flowers, 9/19; the Hall twins, Tiauna and Tyron, 9/19; Latonia Croom, 9/20; Cathy Mahomes, 9/22; John Curry, 9/23; Desmond Ingram, Jr., 9/24; Jamal Evans, 9/24; and Linda Curry, 9/26.
Last but not least, Amie Croom, the daughter of a special lady, is sending a birthday shout out to her loving mother Ethel Croom, who will be 69 years young on 9/26. There is nothing like the love of a mother and daughter! May the Lord keep on blessing all of you to see many more.
On the prayer list this week: pray for our loved ones that are in the hospitals, for the ones who are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families and for the men and women who are serving our country.
Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can. I would like to thank the ones who are calling and emailing me with your news; keep it up and send me more.
If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your families, birthdays, anniversaries, announcements or things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Call me at 608-6132 and leave your message, or you may email me firstname.lastname@example.org.
HAVE A GREAT WEEK!
