News from the Henderson Community of Chester County

with Gloria Holiday

Greetings! I am glad to be with you for another week. It is only by the grace of our God. For this is the day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it! I hope everyone had a wonderful first day of fall on Sept. 22. It was such a beautiful day!
Last weekend, we celebrated our 43rd Barbeque Festival in Chester County. My husband and I did not get to attend because we were out of state going to a very dear friend’s funeral service. Please be safe and keep our friends the Scott family in your prayers.
I did receive news from some individuals that did attend the festival. I understand it was another great year. One of the people, Ms. Amie, stated, “The streets were filled with great vendors for the kids, the adults and the entire community. The kids had a ball on the rides and we all enjoyed the corn dogs, fresh lemonade and slushes.” She did not make it in time for the chorus and honoring of Mr. Bill Howard, but she heard it was a great tribute, and the Chester County High Band did an awesome job!
To the Chester Chamber of Commerce, you did an outstanding job; keep up the great work for the County and the City of Henderson. Thank you for all of the service you provide for the County!
Well, a new month will soon arrive. October, we welcome you. What does this month bring with her? In the United States, this month is to let the public know about health and safety issues. October is National Breast Cancer Awareness Month (NBCAM), Heart Awareness Month, Eat Better, Eat Together Month, Health Literacy Month and National Dental Hygiene Month, so please take this month to go and take care of yourself if you have not done it already. October is a great month to get it done.
There is a young man who will celebrate his birthday on Sept. 30. He will be 73 years young! The Lord has been good to him! After a bad accident this year, he is still with us. To God be the Glory! A big Happy Birthday to Mr. Larry Locke; he is proud to be 73 years young! He is a man who loves the Lord, his family, friends and his Pastor. Oh yes, he loves to play golf also, and I think he is very good at it! He is the proud husband of Margaret Locke. Larry, you are still moving. We hope you will have a blessed birthday, and I know you will.
On Monday, Sept. 27, I was shopping at Cash Savers in Henderson, and I saw so many friends that I have not seen in a long time. It was great to see them all! Not only was I glad to see them, I was also glad to go into a clean and friendly store. The cashier was very friendly, and I did not mind giving him my money. Keep up the great work! The City of Henderson give a big SHOUT OUT to “Cash Saver.”
Happy birthday to Marilyn Myhan, Oct. 8. May the Lord keep on blessing you to see many more years.
On the prayer list this week, remember the Scott family, Kay Springfield, the Swafford family and my great-granddaughter Joslyn. She is in Jackson General. Pray for the ones who are sick in their homes, for our children, teachers and families and for the men and women who are serving our country.
Remember to patronize with our local businesses here in town; let us try to support our own as much as we can. I would like to say thank you to the ones who are calling and emailing me with your news. Keep it up and send me more.
If you live in the City of Henderson and have news about your families, birthdays, anniversaries, announcements or things happening in the City, I need to hear from you. Call me at 608-6132 and leave your message, or you may email me at
