Here at East Chester we are all learning and growing more and more each week! Our second graders led our Leader in Me Assembly last Friday. What a great reminder of the 7 Habits of Happy Kids by Sean Covey!
East Chester hosted the school board meeting on Sept. 23. Our Safety Patrol members did an outstanding job welcoming people to the meeting and leading the Pledge of Allegiance. We are so proud of the leaders these students are becoming!
Kindergarteners are really showing out with what they are learning! This week, the students are reviewing all 16 letters they have learned, beginning sounds and rhyming to get ready for their assessment. In math, they are focusing on the number five, especially showing ways to decompose it (1 + 4, 2 + 3, 0 + 5). With fall in the air, the students are learning about fall and apples. They will be trying different types of apples and making a graph to show everyone’s favorite.
In first grade the students are working hard! The students are reading Fairy Tales such as “Thumbelina,” “Tom Thumb” and “One Inch Boy.” Students are learning to add using doubles. They are also working on counting on from any number. Mrs. Melissa Allen suggests giving your child a number and having them count on from that number.
Second graders are learning so much! Students are reading Tall Tales as they learn about Pecos Bill and John Henry. In math the students are learning to skip count by fives, 10s, and 100s from any number.
In third grade students are really rocking and rolling with all that they are learning! Students are reading about animal classifications in reading class. If you see an East Chester third grader, ask them what they know about vertebrates and invertebrates! They are also looking at text features in non-fiction texts. In math the students are learning ways to multiply and divide. Our third graders always get so excited about learning their multiplication and division facts!
Just a reminder that Parent-Teacher Conferences are the week of Oct. 4-7. East Chester will not be having in-person conferences again this year. Parents may choose to meet with their child’s teacher through a phone call, email or a Remind message or Google Meet. Also, no school on Oct. 8-18. Students will return on Oct. 19.
As always, it is a great day to be at East Chester Elementary School!
