While every month has its beauty, I especially love October. I love the scent it carries in its cool crisp breeze – scents reminiscent of fall, such as kindling crackling on bonfires, warm apple cider and hot soup with cornbread. I relish the first glimpse of yellow, red and orange as the leaves begin to change, and I adore getting to pick out pumpkins with the family. Here are two quotes about October that capture both its beauty and spirit of fun.
“In October, a maple tree before your window lights up your room like a great lamp. Even on cloudy days, its presence helps to dispel the gloom.” — John Burroughs
“October, tuck tiny candy bars in my pockets and carve my smile into a thousand pumpkins…. Merry October!” — Rainbow Rowell
Our Silerton October birthdays this month are Grady Stack (Oct. 20), Norma Jean Sedberry (Oct. 26) and Kevin Beshires (Oct. 31).
Kevin and I are excited to announce the birth of our baby girl, Willow Louise Beshires. She was born on Sept. 16, weighing seven pounds, two ounces.
Mary Lynn Lambert shared some news from the Stack family. “The Stack siblings met at the Cooper B&B in Montezuma to enjoy some quality time. Spaghetti was the dish of the day. Banana pudding was the dessert. Siblings all agreed they enjoyed fellowshipping.”
Mary Lynn also shared some recent sympathy news and a prayer request. Condolences to the family of Mitzi Hatch. Prayers requested for Mike Tims. He is hospitalized at Jackson General.
If you have a beloved recipe you make in the fall or a Halloween tradition you would like to share, I would love to hear about it! I would also love to hear what favorite candies people enjoy and how the Halloween traditions have changed or stayed the same for you over the years.
