What a wonderful and fantastic week of learning here at Jacks Creek Elementary School!
Kindergarteners are learning to produce sounds and blend them into words! We are learning to read sight words, too! We have been learning about weather and weather patterns for the four seasons. In math we are sorting by shape, size and color and counting to tell how many are in each group.
First graders have been amazed at our study of the human body. They have learned about the skeletal, muscular and digestive systems. Math has involved different ways to add and subtract. The boys and girls have also been working with story problems in math. They are also writing about their favorite fall activity.
In second grade this week, we have worked to improve our skills in addition both with and without regrouping. We have also been focusing on phonics, comprehension and fluency to become stronger readers. After break, our math will change over to subtraction with two-digit numbers. In reading we will begin a new Listening and Learning unit about Cycles in Nature, and we will be learning more about science. We are excited about Fall Break, and we hope everybody has a safe, fun week.
In third grade we learned about mammals and the scientists that study animals. We learned about the famous Jane Goodall and all about how she worked to make the world a better place for people and animals. Next week, we will review and test on the five vertebrate groups: amphibians, mammals, birds, fish and reptiles. In math we reviewed and tested our multiplication skills on factor number four. Next week, we will retake any tests that we have not passed so far. This week we dove into division. We practiced identifying each part of the division problem and used our skip counting strategy to find the answer. Skip counting and multiplication are essential to practice at home, and the more they practice, the more confident they will become.
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Curtis Strickland, who says his favorite book is “Superman” and his favorite food is broccoli. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to Brandi Welch. Her favorite book is the Bible, and her favorite foods are steak and chicken! We appreciate all that she does as our guidance counselor!
We appreciate all the support during our Believe Kids Fundraiser. Students who sold 10 or more items are excited about the opportunity to silly string the principal!
Parent-Teacher Conferences are from 5-8 p.m. Oct. 7. One hundred percent parent participation is our school goal. Please reach out to your child’s teacher if you have not set a fall conference (in person, email, phone, Remind, or Google Meet).
JCES Report cards will be sent home with students on Thursday, Oct. 7.
Fall Break will be Oct. 8-15. Staff development day will be Oct. 18. Students return to school on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
PSO Membership drive was a success! We met our goal so students will have a Book Character dress up day on Friday, Oct. 29. Who is your favorite book character?
Box tops are a super easy way to earn money for our school. Clip box tops or download the box tops for education app. Scan your receipts to earn free money for our school! It is that easy!
Are You Connected? JCES uses the Remind App to communicate information to parents. If you have not joined or if you have changed phone numbers, please text @ccsdces to 81010.
