Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Sunday was a beautiful day with sunshine and a light breeze. It was a perfect day for a fall gathering outside and that is exactly what JoAnn Clayton and her family did. There were about 55 family members who attended, and they were spread out on the front porch, patio and front yard. From my view from across the road, it looked like kids and all were having a good time.
Well, dogs had their special day last week, so you should not be surprised that cats would not let dogs get away with all the attention. Thanks to Linda Byrd for letting us know that National Cat is Friday, Oct. 29. This day is for cat lovers to celebrate the cats in their lives and to bring awareness to the number of cats that need to be rescued each year. Linda has five outside cats: Stiz, Cole, Bambo, Kerry and Mom, who is six years old. Clayton Skinner’s cat, Jillian, is 18 years old and loves to be petted. Nancy Howell’s cat Socks is one year old. She was a stray adopted from a shelter in Jackson. Socks loves to play with paper towels. I have two outside cats, Hobo Jo and Sammy Jo. Hobo is about eight years old, and I rescued him in 2014 when he was a kitten and showed up at my home hungry and homeless. He is sort of a celebrity, as he is in the 2021 Pet Calendar that was sponsored by the Chester County Independent. Sammy has been with me for about three years, and he is a little jealous of Hobo. Sammy loves to hunt lizards, and both cats like to bird watch at my feeders. If you have been thinking of getting a cat, this week is a purr-fect time to consider adopting. If you would like to share a story about your cat, please call me.
I am enjoying a visit with my son, Terry. As always, he is as busy as a bee when he is here. My yard was full of leaves, and he cleaned my leaves up twice and did so many other chores for me.
There will be a meeting at the Hickory Corner Center at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 28.
All members are welcome to attend. Hopefully, we can get back to planning some events.
