We are so thankful for the wonderful month of November and the many things we have learned!
Kindergarteners are doing addition problems using more than one strategy. We are learning all the sounds that letters make and are putting them together and reading words! We have studied about Native Americans and Pilgrims and Explorers and are ready to celebrate Thanksgiving!
We have had a wonderful week in first grade! We finished up our read aloud unit on comparing and contrasting stories and began learning about outer space. In our reading skills, we finished unit 2 and took our tests over long vowels, nouns, tricky words and reading comprehension. We have read Thanksgiving books and completed thankful projects. We wrote our versions of how to cook a turkey, which was a lot of fun. In math we continued learning more about adding strategies for our math facts within 20.
In second grade we have been working hard on learning how to solve one- and two-step word problems! This is a tough skill, but we are getting better at it! After Thanksgiving Break, we will work with 2-D and 3-D shapes. This will be different from the math we have focused on most of this school year. In ELA we will be learning more about common and proper nouns, singular and plural nouns, verbs and adjectives. We will also continue to do more writing. Ms. Nancy’s class had to say goodbye to Miss Anna Hudson, our practicum student from Freed-Hardeman University. This was sad because she has been such a great addition to our classroom, and we will definitely miss her! All of us want to wish everyone a safe and happy Thanksgiving break!
In third grade we wrapped up our astronomy unit. We have loved learning about outer space and the astronauts that travel there. We are testing on multiplying by multiples of 10. They have done very well with this skill! We hope everyone has a safe and happy Thanksgiving break!
Our Beekeeper of the Week goes to Mckenzie Young, who says her favorite book is “Spongebob” and her favorite food is an apple. We are proud to have this student shine brightly at our school! Our Staff Beekeeper of the Week goes to Regina Karnes. Her favorite books are the “Tucker” series and the Bible, and her favorite food is steak! We appreciate all that she does as our special education teacher!
Labeling Items of Clothing: as temperature continues to fall, remember to label your child’s winter clothing items (jackets, coats, hats, etc.). We already have a few jackets hanging on our lost and found rack.
A HUGE THANK YOU to all of those who donated canned food items for our food drive. We had over 1,000 items donated during our canned food drive!
Box tops are a super easy way to earn money for our school. Clip box tops or download the box tops for education app. Scan your receipts to earn free money for our school! It is that easy!
