Greetings from Hickory Corner!
Are y’all all turkeyed out after Thanksgiving? I had a refrigerator full of leftovers and found myself not having to cook anything for several days. The holiday was pretty special, as I had family here including four of my great-granddaughters, Emma, Keely, Savannah and Khloe, ages four, three, two and one. Wow! Those little girls sure kept things lively. Also here was my daughter Cindy (Tim) and granddaughter Makenzie and my son Terry (JoEllen) and grandsons Drew (Melissa) and Kyle (Lacey). I am so thankful for all my family.
Reminder to mark your calendars for Saturday, Dec. 11, as there will be a Christmas party at the HCCC beginning at 5 p.m. with a potluck meal. The Center will furnish the ham and turkey so please bring a dish to share. Of course, everyone loves playing bingo, so bring wrapped prizes for our bingo table. Hopefully, Santa will be making an appearance. We invite everyone to come out and hope to see some of the new families in our community. Invite your family and friends to come and enjoy an evening of good food, fun and fellowship. Last year our Christmas party was cancelled due to the pandemic, so let us make this a good one.
Shout-out to those celebrating December birthdays: Diane Clayton (12/7), Dot Patterson (12/12), Zach Gardner (12/22) and Donnie Patterson (12/28). Happy birthday to all and wishing everyone a blessed day. The official flower for December is Holly and Narcissus (Paperwhite). Birthstones for December are Turquoise, Tanzanite and Zircon.
A little history – this year it is the 80th anniversary of the bombing on Pearl Harbor. President Franklin D. Roosevelt stated the next day, “Yesterday, December 7, 1941 – a date which will live in infamy – the United States of America was suddenly and deliberately attacked by naval and air forces of the Empire of Japan.” This attack was the beginning of the United States joining World War II (history.com). Let us remember all those who lost their lives on that day. I look forward to watching some documentaries and movies on television next week about the Pearl Harbor attack.
Remember in prayer Arlan Porter, Ann Bennett, Richy Butler, Ladelle Clark, Mildred Smith, Martha Autry, Ann Morrison, Bonice Martin, Peggy Whitman, Peggy Lard, William and Eddie Luttrell and Donna Lynch. Please continue to pray for all those who are dealing with sickness. Also, pray for those who have recently lost loved ones. If you would like to add or remove a name from our prayer list, please call me.
If you would like to rent the HCC Center for your special event, please call Nancy Patterson at 608-1159.
