Locals prepare to run for office in 2022

On Monday, Dec. 20, citizens who desire to run for local office in 2022 could pick up petitions. For the May 3, 2022 Republican Primary, the following candidates have picked up petitions: Johnny W. Garner – County Commission – District 3; Sharon Stovall – Trustee; Jeremy Epperson – Public Defender – 26th Judicial District; Stacy Smith – County Clerk; Al McKinnon – County Commission – District 2; Beverly Morton – County Mayor; Barry Hutcherson – County Mayor; Lance Beshires – Trustee; Angela R. Scott – General Sessions Judge; Blair Weaver – Sheriff; Justin Emerson – Circuit Court Clerk.
For the August 4, 2022 Local General Election, the following candidates have picked up petitions: Mike Alexander – County Commission – District 6; Jason Ellison – Road Supervisor; Dwain Seaton – County Mayor; Robert Tim Young – Road Supervisor; Kevin Faulkner – County Commission – District 1; John Malone – Road Supervisor; Elijah Ellis – County Commission – District 5; Jerry King – County Commission – District 2.
Morton is the only one that has qualified for office as of the afternoon of Tuesday, Dec. 21.
The qualifying deadline is February, 17, 2022.
