What a great week we had last week at East Chester Elementary School! It was our annual Christmas Literature Week. It was the perfect way to end the first semester!
In kindergarten the students did a reindeer study using nonfiction and fiction texts. They read “The Wild Christmas Reindeer” and “The Littlest Reindeer.” They also read books like “The Animal’s Santa” and “The Last Christmas Tree.” The students had fun making snacks and ornaments and doing writing to go with these books.
First grade had a week celebrating with a Polar Express theme. They played BINGO, made a train glyph, and practiced retelling the story. The students also used the book to work on graphs.
In second grade the students learned all about reindeer. They read a non-fiction text about “Caribou: The Real Reindeer.” The students also read “The Wild Christmas Reindeer,” “Olive the Other Reindeer” and “Dasher.” They enjoyed making reindeer crafts throughout the week.
Third graders spent the week reading books with a theme of hospitality and friendship. The students read books such as “An Orange for Frankie,” “The Trees of the Dancing Goats” and “The Year of the Perfect Christmas Tree.” The students spent the week making crafts for each book.
Just a reminder that students will return to school on Jan. 4.
We at East Chester want to wish all of our readers a safe and happy holiday season!
