Hello from Enville! I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas. We sure did. We were blessed beyond measure; we were all healthy, had plenty to eat and had family around us, not to mention all the presents. After opening gifts on Christmas Eve night, it really did not look like Santa should even come, but he did anyway! Always praying for all those who lost loved ones this year, including our families. It is just not the same, but we have to go on and be thankful for the loved ones we still have.
Happy New Year to everyone! Get your New Year’s Day meal ready with hog jowl to ensure health, prosperity and progress. Black eyed peas are for luck, cabbage and greens both represent “green” money, and the southern tradition (I’ve heard said) is each bite of greens you eat is worth $1,000 in the upcoming year. Cornbread represents pocket money or spending money because of its color – “gold” or “coin” money. It just goes well with collard green, peas and pork. My mom made sure we had this meal every New Year’s Day, so I carry on the tradition with my family. It is just fun and some good eating!
Enville sends out Happy Birthday wishes to Frankie Finley and Megan Weeks on Dec. 31 and Mary Jo Hughes on Jan. 1. Happy Anniversary to Larry and Priscilla Gilbert on Dec. 31, Tom and Rae Harwell on Jan. 1 and Tommy and Linda Smith Wade on Jan. 6. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
Continue prayers for Deb Finley, Casey Pratt, Florence Stublaski, Lisa Bishop, Amanda Johnson, Agnes Smith, Mary Lee Guyon, Janice and Danny Keen, Inez Cash, Genny Sue Martin, Jimmy Robertson, Ann Pugh, Jack and Tera O’Neal, Harold and Janice Maness, Eugene Springer, Tim and Tabitha Hampton, Shirley Hampton, Tim Harris, Roger and Sue Henson, our firefighters, first responders, law enforcement, healthcare workers, military, schools and, as always, each other.
