Gene Johnson, 82, of Henderson passed away Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2020 at Henderson Health and Rehabilitation.
A Celebration of Life Service was held Saturday, Jan. 25, at 2 p.m. at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Ray Eaton officiating.
The family received friends at Crook Avenue from noon-2 p.m. on Saturday.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
She was born in Pinson on July 2, 1937, the daughter of the late Curtis Swann and Dovie Bethune Swope. She grew up in Henderson and attended Chester County schools.
She was a stay-at-home mom for many years and later in life went to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She worked at Chester County Nursing Home for 26 years. She loved art, travelling, cooking, reading, flower gardening and visiting with family. She was feisty, fun to be around, caring, loving, unassuming and humble.
She is survived by two daughters, Shirley (Ray) Eaton of Henderson and Genie (Scott) Hartman of Norcross, Ga., and five grandchildren, Savannah Johnson, Cameron Johnson, Jade Johnson, Philip (Amy) Hartman and Alisha Hartman.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two sons, Jeff and Ken Johnson; and three sisters, Elizabeth Anderson, Linda Nell Wall, and Peggy Beasley.
