Bettye Jo Scott Steed, 89, of Henderson passed away Dec. 2, 2019 at her home. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue with Ken Kitchen officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery at Memphis at 2 p.m. with Alan O’Quin officiating. The family will receive friends at Crook Avenue beginning at 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. Saturday.

She was born July 25, 1930 in Bemis, TN the daughter of the late Homer E. and Bertha Vaughn Scott. She graduated from J.B. Young High School and attended Union University.

She married Billy Burnett ‘Bill’ Steed Oct. 14, 1951. They made their home in Henderson. Mr. Steed died in 2014. They were married 62 1/2 years.

She worked at Chester Manufacturing as an inspector for 10 years. She was a Girl Scout Leader and had served as treasurer of the Henderson Elks Auxiliary. She then returned home to be a domestic engineer. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Henderson where she enjoyed helping with Vacation Bible School.

She is survived by two daughters, Lorna (Tony) Thompson and Dianne Chappell all of Henderson; three grandchildren, Aletha (Bobby) Thompson Glover, Emily (Alan) Kilzer O’Quin and Thomas B. (Brandi) Winbush; and seven great-grandchildren, Abbie Glover, Tyler Scott Glover, Emma Davis O’Quin, Mary Allen O’Quin, Whit O’Quin, Shelby Winbush and Trey Winbush; and two special caregivers, Susan Easley and Darlene Priddy.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and a sister, Jeanette Scott.
