Mr. RD Smith, 91, passed away Monday night at his home.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 28, at Shackelford Funeral Directors – Crook Avenue Chapel with Glenn Harris officiating.
Burial will follow in Old Friendship Cemetery. The family received friends at Crook Avenue from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 27.
He was born in Enville on Oct. 15, 1930 son of the late Richard David and Annie Rickman Smith. He grew up in Milledgeville.
He married Johnnie Arlene Weaver in 1950, and they had three sons. She preceded him in death on Nov. 14, 2003. He joined the US Army in Dec. 1952 and served two years in Korea during the Korean War.
In his early years, he worked as a surveyor. He later served in law enforcement and most notably served as Chester County Deputy Sheriff and then Sheriff from 1970-1976. He even had a film career, serving as the Sheriff who beat Buford Pusser in election in Walking Tall: The Final Chapter. He later worked for the city of Henderson Waste Management.
He married Pauline Climer Jan. 26, 2007, and they made their home in Finger.
He is survived by his wife, Pauline Smith; four sons, Jeffery (Amanda) Smith of Greenfield, Dennis (Kim) Climer of Reagan, Tony (Debbie) Climer of Finger and Teddy (Karen) Climer of Reagan; two brothers, Max (Margie) Smith of Water Valley, Miss., and Danny (Susie) Smith of Finger; 12 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and great-great-grandchild, Raelyn Magee.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sons, David Smith and Johnny Smith; two brothers, Otral Smith and Bill Smith; a sister, Glenda Robinson; and two great-grandchildren, Raven Griswell and Nicole Griswell.
