At the meet hosted by Obion Central High School at Wynridge Golf Course in Troy. the CCHS boys team walked away with the first place team trophy at with an impressive team score of 26 points. Five of the team members received medals in the top 11. They are Zachary Belew-11th, Carter Welch-10th, Tucker Allen-fourth, Gideon McManus – second, and Evan Allen – first. The team will compete at Martin Westview this week on Tuesday. It will be the last regular cross country meet scheduled before the regional competition that will be held on  Tuesday, Oct. 22 at Crockett County High School.
Throughout the course of the season the team has worked their way from 60 to under 30 which was a good improvement for them.
The team is undefeated in the region. “We surprised a lot of people this year already by how we came out, and we still have a lot of surprising left to do throughout the rest of the year if we really want to compete at a state level,” senior runner Evan Allen said.
Evan Allen even earned the rank of second in the state earlier this year by running a 5000m with a time of 15:26.26.
“It’s a really great blessing and honor,” he said about being so highly ranked.
The team has high hopes to finish the season strong, and possibly win the state championship.
“Our goal is the state championship; individual and team,” senior runner Gideon McManus said.
With about 50-60 miles that they run each week according to Coach Stephanie Hatch along with their dedication and ability of being mentally, physically and spiritually fit, it makes her have faith in their success as a team and not just as individuals.
“They have always wanted Chester County represented at that state meet as a team. They want to place as a team this year,” she said.
“I’m wanting it,” she said in agreement.

The Chester County Junior High eagles and eaglettes recently competed in the “Best of the West” in Dyersburg.  In girls and boys JV, Kloe Taylor – 13th place, Ethan Rhodes – 23rd place, Colton Trice – 18th place, Will Heinsohn – 8th place, and Colt Mims – second place received medals for their performance.
