Montezuma Community News
According to the weather forecasters, we are in for another round of cold starting this weekend and some possible wintery mix for Sunday. Time to get prepared.
Please check on any elderly people that live alone to make sure they have their needs met for some warm food and heat. See that your outdoor pets have fresh water daily and a warm place to sleep as well.
Montezuma sends out happy birthday wishes to Gregory Pollock on Jan. 11, Mary Beshires on Jan. 13, Faye Morrison and Beth Everett on Jan. 14, Nita Wade and Trevor Burns on Jan. 15 and Michael Barclay and Jeanette Bolton on Jan. 17.
Mark your calendars for Jan. 15 for business and school closures to celebrate Martin Luther King Day.
We need more community involvement for our center and would like to invite people to join in. Annual renewal dues are $25 after your first initial year of joining. Membership dues need to be paid now to be considered an active member. We also take donations. Payments can be mailed to Edith Sills at 4475 Sunshine Rd, Henderson, TN 38340. We appreciate all our members and would like to have more events if we can get enough help to do so. Call Ann Moore at 608-2033 or myself if you have any new ideas for the center or wish to get involved. People who want to rent the community center should contact Betty Cooper at 879-9078 for booking. We ask those renting our facility to please follow our rules and show respect for the building. We try to keep it in the best order possible, and it takes everyone cooperating to make that happen. If you care about this community, please get involved in what is taking place to continue to grow our County and make it a better place to live and raise a family. Get to know what is changing in our local government, schools, churches and communities through the news, friends, your church, teachers, etc., and if it matters to you, there are ways to help make things better.
There is much spiritual warfare with society accepting things that go against who God is and what HIS laws are that we are to follow. Every day of life has its challenges, but if we look to God for the right path, it can be a good one. Please pray for our government, Jimmy Cooper, Bethany Moore, Jeff and Barbara Brewington, Melanie Pratt Hudson, Renee Jordan, Wesley Whitman, Imogene Naylor, Betty Cooper, Betty Sexton, Ruby Hannah, Vicki Dickson, Donnie Brooks, Linda Plunk, Wayne and Lynn Frye, Lee Trice, Patricia Ledford, Mike Tedford, Clint Murley, Sherry Fletcher, Chuck Beacham, Sandra Lott, Faye Crouse, Janice Morris, Lisa Bishop, Jeanette Walker, Paul Schilling, Nancy Crouse and others that are sick or healing. We especially want to remember the families of James “Jim” Clark Mitchell, Betty Lou Roaten, Bertie Loise Tidwell, Eugene McCage, Maxine Ridley, Danny Mays, Wanda Bryant and other families that have recently lost loved ones.
I am always looking for noteworthy news to share in this column. Please send to gaylescox1977@gmail.com or text me at 608-2857.
As always, I am wishing a very blessed week to all you readers. Until next time!
New Friendship & Mifflin Community News
Hello to all from this little corner of the world. The sky was gray on Saturday, and the temperature was 45 degrees but felt like 38 degrees due to wind chill. Well, we are now into the New Year. The holidays have come and gone, and now, we move along with hopes and plans for a good year ahead and, for many, a better one. Life has many ups and downs, and sometimes, the downs seem longer, but most of the time, it feels that way because we are so despondent. Life is full of hills and valleys. We must remember to give thanks in the good and bad times. God is with us always. There are blessings every day, and the first is waking up. If you are sad, you may not think so, but as time goes on, you will see good times through God’s mercy and kindness.
I apologize for being out for two weeks. We have had a lot of medical issues going on and Christmas with it. I was just bogged down. It has been overwhelming, and the tension in my neck has been horrible, but again, God has answered my prayers. He never ceases to amaze me. I am very thankful in more ways than one. I just turned the BIG 70 also. Wow, thankful for another year.
Rachel Ellington, along with Marla, Kevin and Kendyl Davidson and Brooklyn and Kirk Walls, spent the Christmas holidays with Sherry and Greg Utley of Scottsborough, Ala. Kendyl Walls, daughter of Marla and Kevin Davidson, recently graduated from UT Martin with a BS in business and is continuing to obtain her Masters degree.
Condolences to all who have lost loved ones. Prayers for God’s comfort during this time and days ahead.
There is a lot of sickness going around as many know. Please for everyone’s sake, social distance, sneeze or cough into your elbow if nothing else is available and use antibacterial gel or wash hands often. Also, please keep little ones safe and do not take them around crowds of people. They depend on you and enjoying time with others could cause you and your child to suffer unnecessarily.
Happy belated birthdays to Sheila Smith, 12-23; Nona Seaton, 12-24; Jimmy Priddy, 12-25; June Smith, 12-26; Brooklyn Davidson, Norris McCaskill and Mickey Dyer, 12-27; Terry Coleman, 12-29; Peyton Cooper, 12-30; Donna Latham and Jonah Azbill, 12-31; Rick Prater, 1-1; Vickie Ellis, 1-2; and Amy Lofton, 1-4.
Happy belated anniversary to Amy and Chad Lofton, 12-27, and Shelia and Jeff Smith, 12-29. Happy birthday to Kynleigh Butler, 1-7; Curt McKinney, 1-8; Doris Rowlett, 1-10; Joseph Gladish, 1-11; and Eva Jones and James Webb, 1-13.
Please continue to remember these in prayer – Carey Barham, Wesley Bates, Paula Berry, Marie Bishop, Melvin Butler, Jackie Chambers, Rickey Clayton, Jerry Cloud, Boyd Cupples, Vicki Dickson, Rachel Ellington, James Ellis, Joie Freeman, Joey Harris, Jennifer Gateley, Bro. Glen and Judy Harris, LaDawn Hayes, Johnny Hays, Danny Hodges, Donna Johnson, Pat N. Jones, Shirley Kendrick, Bobbie Wyatt King, Doris McKinney, Martha Mainord, Deana Morris, Jim and Sue Newsom, Tom and Cissy Nichols, Julia Parchman, Beth Plunk, Trudy Powers, Pam Priddy, Karon Reinmann, Nona and Dwain Seaton, Cathy Sisson, Jacob Thomas, Kevin Thurman, Lee Trice, Tony Tucker, Adam Wise, Katherine Wyatt and the family of Lois Tidwell. Also, pray for our military, law enforcement, our country and first responders.
“We have to let go of everything that has produced or is currently producing stress…those things that are beyond our ability to control or to change. The time we spend being stressed out and worried causes damage to our faith. Trust God with EVERY troubling and difficult situation. Trust Him to give us wisdom and direction in the situation and to lead us through to VICTORY! ‘But as for me, it is good for me to stay near to God. I have gone to the Almighty Lord as the place where I can be safe. I will tell people about the great things that you have done.’ Psalm 73:28” — A Seed a Day
I pray you all have a wonderful week and may it be filled with love, joy, peace and blessings. Remember: if you have news, please email me at mimmiepots@gmail.com. I would truly appreciate any news. People from here and those who have moved from our area but still want to keep in touch through the newspaper are hungry for news from home. Until next week, Happy Trails to You. Happy New Year to ALL!
Enville Community News
Hello from Enville! I hope everyone is having a good week. I hope you are ready for the cold temperatures that are coming for the upcoming weekend. It has been very windy and rainy this week. This is typical winter weather, I guess. Monday, Jan. 15, is Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. Legislation making Martin Luther King, Jr. Day a federal holiday in the United States was passed in 1983, and the first nationwide observance took place in 1986. Only government employees legally have to be given the day off from work, and many schools will not be in session on this day. Chester County will not have school. There will be many celebrations taking place on this day to honor Martin Luther King, Jr.; if you have the day off, enjoy it!
Happy birthday wishes go to Gene Hanna and Tasha Nichols on Jan. 12 and William Ashbrook and Tim Knight on Jan. 15. We hope you all enjoy your special day!
