The most recent COVID-19 update as released by the Tennessee Department of Health, as of Tuesday, Feb. 1, reports total numbers as of January 22, 2022. At that time, a total of 4,929 positive cases had been reported in Chester County since the beginning of the pandemic in early 2020. This was an increase of more than 1,000 cases, from the previously reported data on January 3. The number of COVID-related deaths in Chester County has risen to 84.
Of the total cases reported as of Jan. 22, active cases numbered 683 at that time. A total of 4,162 cases were reportedly inactive/recovered. “Active” cases are determined by the amount of time which has lapsed since diagnosis. At 14 days out from a positive test, cases are considered inactive or recovered, with the exception of those resulting in death, and sometimes seem to cause a discrepancy between “total cases” and “active” cases.
It is important to note that total and active cases become increasingly difficult to tally accurately as the popularity of home testing rises, many of which are unreported, as well as taking into account the likelihood of many positive cases remaining untested, and therefore unreported.
According to covid19.tn.gov, 84 people from Chester County were hospitalized due to the coronavirus on Jan. 22, 2022.
The state of Tennessee reports a total of 1,771,783 cases as of Jan. 22, with 22,151 deaths statewide and 1,543,456 inactive/recovered cases.
Vaccination stats as of Jan. 31, show 39.24% of Chester County residents have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccination with 35.37% having received both doses or series completion. Statewide, 59.1% have received at least one dose of a vaccination regiment, and 52.2% of Tennesseans are fully vaccinated.
