The Eaglettes started last week with a rivalry game against Lexington on Tuesday, Jan. 14. They beat Lexington 60-34.
“We shot the ball extremely well,” Head Coach Lee Pipkin said. “The girls came out ready to play.”
The main action of the week for the Eaglettes was at Adamsville though.
That game was a real nail-biter that came down to the very last moments.
The Eaglettes played well throughout the night by keeping the lead, even if it was just by a few, or having it tied the whole game. However, a gamechanger occurred when the Cardinals took the lead with 24.9 seconds remaining in the game, with score of 42-43. The Eagles were not done though. Madison Williams was able to take the lead back with some free throws and Ava Craddock stretched out the lead further with some more. The score was 46-43.
Though it was just second remaining, the three point difference was still scary for the Eaglettes’ fans because the Cardinals dropped two buzzer beaters in earlier quarters.
Nonetheless, that difference was enough to seal the game for Chester County as they prevented Adamsville from scoring any more points.
Pipkin said the game could have been a better one if the girls played a better defensive game.
“These girls haven’t figured out yet that defense is so important,” Pipkin said. “Everybody wants to score, and everybody wants their points but it’s got to start on the defensive end of the court.”
They earned another “W” on Saturday, Jan. 18 against Bolivar Central. This game they won by a lot though. They won 73-45.
