On Monday Dec. 6, the Eaglettes were in good shape in their district. They were for tied for first in the district with McNairy Central, 4-0. However, the Eaglettes started to fall behind in the district starting with their game against McNairy on Tuesday Jan. 7 which resulted in them losing 61-35. Then, they lost being second in the district after falling to Scotts Hill Friday night 68-44.
McNairy’s post players height caused problems for the Eaglettes offensively and defensively. The Eaglettes lack of experience in dealing with post players of that size is what hurt them.
“That’s just something that comes with court experience,” Head Coach Lee Pipkin said.
On Friday, though the Eaglettes had a strong start to their game against the Scotts Hill Lions, they fell behind in the first quarter due to a lack of defensive coverage.
They had an 8-0 lead on the Lions after scoring two 3-pointers by Ava Craddock and the other two points by Claire Maxon, but the Lions went on a scoring streak and ended the first with a 17-8 lead. Afterwards, the Lions kept scoring which resulted in their win.
Pipkin said that the team’s defensive communication needs to improve in order for them to be successful in future games.
Chester County played Lexington Tuesday Jan. 14 and will play Adamsville Friday Jan. 17. Both are district games.
Results of the Lexington game were unavailable at the time of printing.
