The Eagles put on a show for their home-opener versus Milan. At the end, the score was not in their favor, but they fought hard on the field.
The Eagles first score was a series of power runs by Peyton Barham that ended in the endzone.
The next score was a deepball to Chad Barham on the first play of the drive after a Milan punt.
Then Colston Callis kicked the extra point to give the Eagles the halftime lead of 14-0.
To start the second half, Milan scored first to put them ahead 21-14 after a two point conversion.
Evan Schippers and Chad Barham responded though. Schippers made a short pass to Barham and he shake and baked Milan defenders until he made it to the house for a Eagles touchdown to tie it at 21.
Milan then took control for a while with two scores putting them up 35-21.
In the fourth quarter with less than a minute left, the Eagles kept fighting and Schippers found Chad Barham open again and Barham took it for a CC touchdown.
So with under a minute left, the Eagles tried the onside kick by Linkin Phillips who kicked it perfectly, and Jaylen Edgeston recovered the ball for an attempt to have one last drive to tie it. Unfortunately, the referees said that Chester county recovered the ball before it traveled 10 yards by less than a yard. Thus, the final score was 35-27 with Milan winning.
Eagles Head Coach Dewond Johnson was still proud of the way his team fought throughout the game.
“Great game. Our kids fought. I cannot complain about that one bit. They fought. Made a couple mistakes, but at the same time [they’re] hot and our kids just kept on fighting. Like I told them a while ago, we’re getting close. Losing sucks, but sometimes you have to go through some things to get where you want to be. They [Milan] knew we were there. We had them nervous, but we got to get better,” he said.
