On Friday, the Chester County football held their jamboree versus Decatur County Riverside to make some of the final preparations before the season started.
The Chester County Junior High won their game 14-0 that concluded with a 45-yard run by quarterback Ethan Burks as the clock expired.
With an option to pitch it back, he kept the ball and sprinted downfield for the touchdown.
The Chester County High School Eagles varsity team had a tough time offensively. This forced them to start losing by two touchdowns. Difficulties furthered once the Panthers forced a safety.
Jaleo Smith was not satisfied with having no points on the scoreboard though.
With under a minute left, Smith took the ball for a long, touchdown run.
Though errors were made, CCHS Football Head Coach Steve Robinson said that his team played well overall.
“Riverside is always a very tough, physical team, and they were tonight,” he said. “We did some good things. Of course there’s some things we’ve got to fix… Overall I think our kids played hard.”
With some key seniors unable to play that game, a lot of the players that had game time were sophomores who are still in the midst of gaining their experience.
“Being young, in positions like that, yeah they’re going to make mistakes, but they’re a good bunch so we’re gonna get those mistakes fixed next week,” Robinson said.
CCJHS opens their season in a matchup against Bolivar at Bolivar this evening (Thursday), and CCHS Football opens up to Fayette-Ware at home on Friday.
