Eighth graders Silas McManus, Cooper Thompson and Bella Lamb of Chester County Junior High are making their marks in Tennessee athletics.
The three of them this past weekend sealed spots in the state tournament race after making great finishes in the West Tennessee Regional Qualifier at Shelby Farms.
McManus placed fifth in the West TN Regional Qualifier at Shelby Farms with a time of 11:42; Thompson placed 31st with a time of 12:39; and Lamb placed 30th with a time of 14:22.
The junior high cross country team is just three years old, and Chester County already is seeing runners being capable of running at the state level with these three athletes being the first ones to reach the state race.
“I’m beyond proud of the hard work and commitment these kids have to the sport. In just three years of starting the program at the junior high and having three students qualify for the state race is beyond my initial predictions,” said Head Coach Greg Maxwell.
Maxwell has faith these students will continue their excellence in the sport at the high school level.
“I have no doubt these runners will continue to do great things at the high school level,” Maxwell said. “The commitment they have to the sport is phenomenal.”
Cheer on the junior Eagles for their state tournament race this saturday in Knoxville.
