Jennie Fletcher, Sandy Lewis, and Kyle Newsom, who teach the Special Education classes at East Chester, accept the monetary donation from the Chester County Retired Teachers Association.

The Chester County Retired Teachers met on Wednesday, March 15, at Snookum’s Restaurant. The meeting was called to order by President Martha Lewis. The meal was sponsored by the Community Bank. President Emily Johnson represented the bank. Mrs. Johnson expressed her appreciation to the group and the Chester County school system. President Lewis thanked the bank for their support of CCRTA. The prayer for the meal was led by Dr. Bruce Lewis.
After a delicious meal, Caroline Johnson led the Pledge to the Flag and Gail Dyer had our Thought for the Day.
Nancy Lofton reported on the December Service Project. Breakfast items were purchased and greatly appreciated by the Eagles’ Edge.
This month the Service Project is a monetary donation to the East Chester Special Education classes.
Ralph Mays reported that his wife, the late Dr. Kathy Mays, former educator and superintendent of Chester County Schools, would be inducted into the Ole Miss Alumni Hall of Fame.
In New Business President Lewis reminded the group that annual dues will be paid in June. Mike Barker, representing TCRS, would be speaker. Mr. Barker will give updates on legislation impacting Tennessee retired teachers.
President Lewis welcomed guests: Debbie, Dee Dee, and Asher Jones. Debbie’s late husband, Danny, was a long time Chester County educator and member of Chester County Retired Teachers. Wayne Roberts read a tribute and related his memories of Danny. He was a valuable member of the Chester County education system and Retired Teachers.
President Lewis gave an update on the West Tennessee Retired Teacher meeting on Monday, March 13. She stated that there were a number of bills in the legislature on vouchers and charter schools that would negatively impact state funded schools. We were all encouraged to contact our legislators.
We were all encouraged to invite retired teacher friends to join CCRTA.
Our guest speaker for the meeting was Mrs. Heather Griffin with Quality Metal Stamping. Mrs. Griffin gave an interesting overview of the company and its impact on our local economy as well as training and job opportunities for our community. She invited members to QMS at the conclusion of our meeting to tour the facility and learn more of the interesting facts about their company.
Door prizes were awarded, and the meeting was continued at QMS.
A number of retired teachers met Mrs. Griffin at the factory. Before leading the group on a tour of the facility, Mrs. Griffin gave interesting background information on QMS. The company was established in 1960 and the current owners are fourth generation of the original family. She supplied us with ear buds and protective glasses. Mrs. Griffin led the group through the factory and saw all the stations of welding, design, all aspects of the work.
In addition to the regular work opportunities, Quality has begun working with the school system providing job training with pay for students. The program also provides scholarships for qualifying students.
In conclusion CCRTA would like to thank Mrs. Griffin and Quality Mfg. for their contributions to our community. We are extremely fortunate to have a wonderful company in our county that is providing opportunities that will benefit citizens now and in many years to come.
Meeting adjourned.

Members of the Chester County Retired Teachers Association visited Quality Metal Stamping at 845 E. Main St., in Henderson, Thursday following their meeting.
